Lymphatic Drainage

The lymphatic system is our body’s ‘sewage system’. The lymphatic system is important for the optimal functioning of our organs, tissues, and cells. It the the other half of our circulatory system and the co-worker of every other body system. Almost all symptoms and diseases have a root-cause in the lymphatic system.

How do I know if I need Lymphatic Drainage?

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a gentle, hands-on manual therapy that is highly beneficial for pre/post-op surgeries of all kinds. It is a great option for general health and wellness and is an effective way to improve lymph flow for sluggish, stuck systems or for anyone who has had lymph nodes removed. During a session, lymphatic fluid is directed towards lymph nodes which act as filters to cleanse and purify cellular waste. Unlike the circulatory system, the lymphatic system has no means of independently pumping or moving throughout the body.  The only means of lymph fluid circulation is from the body’s movements such as exercise, deep diaphragmatic breathing, sweating, and of course, MLD.

Symptoms and Conditions

What happens in a MLD session?

While laying on a massage table, clients undress and relax under a cozy blanket. The therapist uses her hands to manually move lymphatic fluid around the body using light pressure. No oils, lotions, or creams are used on the skin. The therapist’s movements are short, slow, and rhythmic creating a hypnotic-like state of relaxation. Abdominal work is almost always integrated, along with diaphragmatic breathing. In some cases, chest and breast work will be suggested to assist with glandular drainage and relevant symptom relief.
